Education is...

an Atmosphere...

Charlotte believed that all children were influenced and ruled by their environment. In laymens terms this means that what all us parents do, say, act, and teach influences our children. “The child breathes the atmosphere emanating from his parents; that of the ideas which rule their own lives” (Vol. 2, p. 247).

a Discipline...

Charlotte emphasized the importance of training our children in good habits. These habits that they learn now while they are young will serve them when they grow up. Charlotte compared learning these good habits to rail road tracks.that will take them into adult life. “It rests with [the parent] to consider well the tracks over which the child should travel with profit and pleasure” (Vol. 1, p.109).

a Life...
Charlotte wanted to remind us that “all the thought we offer to our children shall be living thought; no mere dry summaries of facts will do” (Vol. 2, p.277). These thoughts or methods that Charlotte wrote about are used  to present each subject (reading, writing, math, and all other subjects) with living ideas and thoughts.

I don't know about all of you but this post is like a slap in the face to me. I get so caught up some times worrying about the, "...a life," part that I tend to forget the atmosphere and discipline. But as you can see from what Charlotte wrote is that "...a life," is only one-third of what education is as a whole.

Do you guys have a problem with remembering all three aspects of education?
How do you keep, "Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, and a life." in your homeschool?
